Getting Your Rock Climbing Equipment Together

People who want to try rock climbing should never attempt to climb without the proper rock climbing equipment. Not only will it be very difficult to climb with the necessary rock climbing equipment, it will also dangerous for people to climb without protection.Since rock climbing may involve going to certain heights, there is always the danger that the climber loses his or her balance and has an accident. Having the right rock climbing equipment is very important to prevent accidents and to minimize injuries in case of a fall.

When rock climbing, you need climbing shoes, ropes, some devices that you can use in connecting things such as the harnesses, nylon cords and other apparatus you can use to wedge into the rocks. You also need your safety hat when rock climbing.

Selecting Ropes

You need ropes that are of kern-mantle construction. The kern-mantle construction is very important because this adds more strength and stability on the rope. Do not use traditional ropes always go for ropes that are made up of continuously braided nylon fibers with an outer sheath that protects the core of the rope. The rope must be flexible and dynamic. It must also be able to stretch a bit. Note that your rope will help break a fall so it is important that it will be able to stretch a bit to absorb some of the impact of a fall.

When selecting a climbing rope as your key rock climbing equipment, you should pay close attention to the diameter, length and strength of the rope and the condition on which you will need to use the rope on. Note that there are different types of ropes that are suitable in wet and dry conditions so make sure that you get the right type when you are putting all your rock climbing equipment together.

Thicker ropes are generally more durable and stronger however they can also be heavier. If you are big and you are planning to take on some heavy loads during your climb, it would be safer for you to invest in thicker ropes. On the other hand, if you are one of those small to medium built people, a rope with regular thickness will do nicely. This is because there is really no point of carrying extra weight of rock climbing equipment when you do not have much use for them.
