Rock Climbing and Epilepsy Can Be Made To Gel Well Together

Rock climbing and epilepsy can be made to gel well together though it has been found that almost all physicians, parents as well as specialists in physical education will advise caution and restraint if a person or a child suffers from epilepsy, and is considering a sport such as rock climbing. There are many studies though that show that people suffering from epilepsy showed signs of feeling better and could control their seizures well after having exercised regularly. However, before embarking on as strenuous an activity such as rock climbing, the epileptic must bear in mind certain factors.

Evaluate The Pros And Cons

When evaluating the pros and cons of rock climbing and epilepsy it should be considered that there is a benefit in participating in the sport though it must be weighed against the possibilities of becoming injured while performing such activities. Other considerations include the frequencies as well as timing of the seizures and which medications are being taken, and whether there are any potential side effects to also contend with.

It does give a person great joy and others too find it gratifying when a person considers rock climbing and epilepsy to be a means to leading a fuller as well as more active life. However, there is still need to have precise diagnosis as well as avail of better treatment regarding seizure control that should also be accompanied with fewer toxic side effects.

This means that if a patient is considering rock climbing and epilepsy, then the medical personnel should not unduly restrict the patient from participating in such an activity. There is ample evidence to prove that risk from such sport for the epileptic through his or her participation in rock climbing is somewhat limited.

It really means that one has to simply exercise common sense and even parents of the epileptic should take precautionary measures so as to ascertain what is reasonable as well as necessary to help the person rather than cause a feeling of inferiority as well as an alteration in the person’s self-image by restricting him or her from participating in rock climbing.

There is little doubt, that barring a few exceptions, participating in sports is beneficial to the person even those with epilepsy. Studies conducted in Norway show that epileptics felt better after they maintained a regular exercise program and were thus better able to control their seizures following exercising. This is especially true even in the case of rock climbing and epilepsy and such participation can actually help boost the person’s self-image as well as bolsters self-confidence in him or her.
